Call for Paper: The Art of doing Tribal Philosophy

Objective of the Workshop:

The workshop seeks to de-stigmatize Tribal and Indigenous Philosophy by challenging the tendency to view tribal thought as primitive, pre-logical, or merely cultural rather than philosophical. It recognizes Tribal and Indigenous communities as knowledge producers and philosophical thinkers, with rich traditions of reflection on reality, personhood, ethics, community, nature, and the good life.

With a special focus on Northeast India, the workshop will explore diverse tribal philosophies through their languages, oral traditions, cultural practices, memories, relationships with land and ancestors, and more-than-human worlds. It will also examine questions of identity, ecology, healing, knowledge, colonial legacies, and cultural self-determination.

The workshop aims to create a space where Tribal Philosophy is understood not simply as an object of academic study, but as a living intellectual tradition that contributes to contemporary philosophical thought.
