Introduction
The intersection of feminist legal reform and digital agency represents one of the most dynamic and contested terrains in contemporary global media landscapes. As digital platforms reshape how societies debate, negotiate, and implement gender justice, new possibilities for feminist advocacy emerge alongside novel forms of resistance, surveillance, and backlash. From hashtag movements challenging patriarchal legal systems to online campaigns for reproductive rights, from digital storytelling by marginalized women to algorithmic biases perpetuating gender inequality, the relationship between feminist legal reform and digital media is complex, multifaceted, and urgently in need of scholarly attention.
This edited collection responds to a critical gap in interdisciplinary scholarship: the need for a comprehensive examination of how digital agency—the capacity of individuals and communities to act purposefully through digital technologies—intersects with feminist legal reform across diverse global contexts. While existing literature addresses feminist legal theory and digital media separately, few works systematically explore their convergence. This volume brings together scholars from law, media studies, communication, gender studies, religious studies, and digital humanities to examine how digital platforms enable, constrain, and transform feminist legal advocacy worldwide.
The book will critically interrogate questions of power, representation, authenticity, and justice at the nexus of law, gender, and digital technology. It recognizes that feminist legal reform is not merely a matter of changing statutes but involves transforming cultural narratives, challenging embedded patriarchal norms, and creating new spaces for women's voices and agency. Digital media, with its affordances for networking, storytelling, and mobilization, has become an indispensable arena for these transformative projects—yet it also presents new challenges, including online harassment, misinformation, algorithmic discrimination, and the digital divide that disproportionately affects women in the Global South.
