Submission deadline: December 15, 2026
Details
The Athens MA in Ancient Philosophy, established in 2023, is an intensive one-year postgraduate program offering in-depth study of Ancient Philosophy and advanced research training across its various fields. The Program promotes the study of Ancient Greek Philosophy in its full historical and thematic scope; it is one of the very few programs worldwide dedicated exclusively to Ancient Philosophy as a field of systematic study and research. The Athens MA is a collaboration between three leading Greek universities, which have joined forces to establish a highly competitive Program:
· National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
· University of Patras
· University of Crete
Teaching takes place in Athens and is delivered by academics from Greek universities and visiting scholars from international institutions. Graduates are prepared for independent and collaborative research and for doctoral studies. The Program admits up to 20 students per academic year.
The Program’s duration is a full academic year (12 months – 75 ECTS): two semesters of coursework are followed by a Summer Term devoted to the preparation and submission of a master’s thesis. The tuition fee is €3,000. The language of instruction is English. Knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin is desirable but not required; there are several opportunities to learn Ancient Greek in Athens, offered both by the Program and by other institutions.
Candidates may submit their applications from October 15, 2026, to June 30, 2027. The Program follows a rolling admissions procedure divided into three phases:
· Phase I: October 15 – December 15, 2026
· Phase II: February 1 – March 31, 2027
· Phase III: April 1 – June 30, 2027
Students from countries requiring a visa are strongly encouraged to apply during Phase I or II. Admission decisions are announced approximately two weeks after the close of each phase.
