Details

We invite graduate students to submit abstracts for a two-day, pre-read workshop on the political philosophy of work, to be held at Pompeu Fabra University on 12–13 April 2027.

We welcome papers in analytic political philosophy and adjacent fields within the analytic tradition (ethics, social philosophy, philosophy of economics) that address the normative dimensions of work. Topics include, but are not limited to: unrecognised forms of work, such as care and domestic work; automation, AI and the future of work; the goods and bads of work; and theories of labour market justice.

Format. The workshop aims to offer participants the opportunity to closely engage with each other’s work and to receive feedback from peers specialising in the same area. It follows a pre-read format. Full papers will be circulated to all participants one month in advance. Each participant will give a short talk introducing their paper, and most of each session will be devoted to discussion.

Submission. To apply, please send the following to [email protected]:

  1. An extended abstract (750–1,000 words, excluding references), prepared for anonymous review.

  2. A separate cover sheet with your name, institution, degree programme and stage, paper title, and email address.

The deadline to submit is 15 December 2026.

Notifications will be sent by 15 January 2027 at the latest. Selected participants will be asked to submit a full paper of 4,000–6,000 words (excluding notes and references) by 1 March 2027.

Costs. There is no registration fee. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to cover travel or accommodation costs.

Please direct any inquiries to the workshop email address: [email protected]
