2027 UAPA Graduate Philosophy Conference: Human Nature

Keynote Speaker: Sally Haslanger (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Conference Theme: Human Nature

Questions about human nature have persisted throughout the history of philosophy and continue to arise across many areas of contemporary philosophical inquiry. What is human nature? Is there a common or universal human nature? Which aspects of human beings, if any, are “natural,” and which are shaped by social, cultural, and historical conditions? How do our conceptions of human nature shape our thinking about morality, politics, social relations, and human flourishing?

We welcome papers that engage with questions concerning human nature from a wide range of philosophical perspectives and traditions.
