Workshop Description:

Recent years have seen increased interest in applying logical methods and frameworks, the traditional subject matter of ESSLLI, to cognitive modeling, whereby logical models of cognitive phenomena are tested against empirical data. At the same time, there has recently been an explosion of activity in the cognitive sciences around (structured) statistical, and specifically Bayesian, models. With this workshop we propose to bring together two groups of researchers -- logicians focused on cognitive modeling, and cognitive scientists incorporating logical structure into probabilistic models -- with the aim of cross-pollination, and ideally, a consensus on how these two traditions relate, and how we might combine the best of what both have to offer. The primary aim is to gain a better understanding of (i) how cognitive computational models could be enriched by logical insights and (ii) how logical models may be turned into cognitive models.

* Probabilistic semantics
* Probabilistic pragmatics

* Logic and graphical models
* Causal reasoning and counterfactuals
* Foundational and technical questions in bridging logical and probabilistic models
* Cognitive architectures combining logic and probability
* Probabilistic programming approaches

Submissions Details:

Please send your submission in PDF format, at most 10 pages in LNCS style, 10 pts, bibliography included (seehttp://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0 ). If needed due to space reasons, technical material such as proofs may be added in an appendix of at most 5 pages. The PDF files have to be uploaded online via the workshop's submission website: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pccl2015


The author notification date is April 15, 2015. Prior to the workshop, speakers will have the opportunity to submit an extended abstract for inclusion in the ESSLLI proceedings (deadline June 1, 2015). All participants must register for ESSLLI.
