HEGEL ON THE HUMAN PERSON
A workshop at the School of Humanities and Languages, UNSW Australia
Friday, November 28, 2014

Location: Kensington Campus, Morven Brown Building, room G3

Views on Hegel’s account of the human person vary wildly, and often they reflect the philosophical or other concerns of the interpreters more than Hegel’s text. Until very recently, astonishingly little had been achieved in the way of interpreting and reconstructing what Hegel actually writes of the human person in the part of his system where this is his explicit topic—namely in the section Subjective Spirit of his Encyclopaedia of Philosophical Sciences. With new literature coming out, perhaps most notably Michael Inwood’s detailed commentary to his translation of the whole of Philosophy of Spirit, the situation is now gradually changing. This workshop focuses on issues in and around Hegel’s Philosophy of Subjective Spirit.
