What does it need for philosophy to be intercultural?

One of the self-appointed tasks of the Society of Intercultural Philosophy (SIP) is to interpret self-conception not only from one’s own perspective, but consider the perspective of others as well. It is necessary to look for both: similarities as well as differences in the philosophies of the world.

To look for similarities and differences ensues in studying source of foreign-languages and their translations. But theoretical investigations to methods and intradisciplinary models belong to our tasks.

For this reason, the dimensions of Intercultural Philosophy reaches from Theoretical to Practical Philosophy.

But following these assumptions, when is philosophy intercultural? Is there something specifically intercultural? If so, how is it designed? What is the worth of such a concept of philosophy as an academic discipline?

We call for young scholars to apply for short presentations (20 min.) There will be the possibility to discuss one’s own research project concerning issues of Intercultural Philosophy in general and in particular within groups. For applying to such a group, please send a 300 word abstract. Abstracts in German and English are welcome.

All participants need to be members of the Society for Intercultural Philosophy. There will be the opportunity to associate at the conference. The annual membership due for students amounts 12 Euro.

Please send your application to: [email protected]
The deadline is the 15th of June 2015.

The conference will take place at the University of Hildesheim on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2015.
