Details

The conference aims at presenting state-of-the-art philosophical research on happiness, wellbeing and the good life to an interdisciplinary audience and explore its connections to more general conceptions of human existence, and its possible applications to fields like politics and policy-making, health studies and health care, social, cultural and literary studies and anthropology.

One main focus will be on the relationship between what might be called existential factors – self-conceptions, choice, autonomy, personal or cultural identity, action and social interaction, self-expression, reflection, temporality, life trajectories and turning points etc. – and happiness and wellbeing.

Another main focus will be on possible applications of philosophical happiness and wellbeing research. The two fields can be assumed to overlap, since tackling real-life problems almost inevitable calls for more nuanced and comprehensive approaches that take into account a variety of cultural and existential factors.

Submissions are welcome not only from philosophers, but also from psychologists, social scientists and other working in the interdisciplinary field of happiness and well-being studies.

Abstracts of no more than 500 words, prepared for blind reviewing, may be sent to [email protected]. The deadline is 3. November 2015. Contributors whose abstracts are accepted will be notified by 30. November.
