This workshop is a satellite workshop at the GAP.9 Congeference.

Recent years have seen a significant rise of interest in the concept of grounding, witnessed by a quickly growing literature on the subject. In this literature, grounding is mostly characterized as the ‘in virtue of-relation’, as in the claim that a sentence is true or false in virtue of how the world the world is. But grounding comes in many guises, it has become a sort of ‘umbrella concept’ for different kinds of non-causal dependence, such as ontological dependence, semantic dependence, or the kind of dependence relevant for metaphysical explanation. Given this wide scope of concepts, it is hardly surprising that grounding finds applications in almost all areas of philosophy, from ethics over aesthetics to metaphysics. In this workshop, we plan to focus particularly on the logical and the metaphysical perspective on grounding.
