Details

Philosophy is today a theoretical discipline. Philosophers today do not, as a rule, think that they will become morally better people by doing philosophy. But such was, of course, the view of the ancient Greek philosophers, for whom the goal of philosophising was nothing less than moral goodness or an enlightened state of being. This conference aims to explore the idea that philosophy is or could be a component in the morally good life, and a number of parallel questions concerning the appropriate form of thought and communication for the practice of philosophy so conceived.

The conference is linked to a special issue of Philosophical Papers, to be edited by Dylan Futter, and published in 2014.

Deadline for submission of papers: 15 July 2012.

Papers should be sent to [email protected] in .rtf or .docx format, and should be suitable for presentation in no more than 40 minutes (i.e. 3500 to 4000 words).
