Deleuze and the Schizoanalysis of Feminism: Alliances and Allies
Schizoanalytic Applications Series, Bloomsbury Press
Feminist Theory and Deleuzian philosophy share an unusual history. It is safe to say that the centrality of the issues of sexuality and desire to the process of desubjectification, as well as Deleuze and Guattari’s explicit use of language that invokes feminine constructs, such as becoming-woman and the figure of the girl conceptualized through Alice, have met with skeptical responses from feminists. Yet, with the publication of Deleuze and Feminist Theory (2000), we see a notable desire for more positive engagements with Deleuze’s philosophy, in particular concerning the radical potentialities of Deleuzian becoming. This proposal is born from the belief that it is time to revisit this relationship in light of the important developments within feminism itself, and by insisting on the guiding theme of schizoanalysis this collection can add a new trajectory to these discussions.
This collaborative volume will explore possible manners of alliance between Deleuze and Guattari’s philosophy and feminist theory, both in light of new political, technological, and global landscapes and with regard to the contemporary developments in feminist philosophy. The main theme of this project is alliances and allies – how the methods, concepts, and practices that evolve out of Deleuze and Guattari’s vision for philosophy can be allies to feminist projects of critique, revaluation, and re-imaginings of the philosophical and political fields. Between schizoanalysis and feminism, what alliances have been formed or can be imagined?
Issues of reconceiving desire, theorizing embodiment and materiality, interrogating the status of sexuality and difference, the project of decentering feminist practice to be inclusive of transnational and de-colonial concerns, critiques of binary logic and gender from materialist or LGBTQ+ perspectives, politics of location, politics of affirmation, intersectional and transversal analyses, post-humanist critiques and ecological concerns, and the need for new political visions in light of advanced capitalism and the anthropocene, are all points of connection that could be enhanced by this alliance.
We invite submissions in the form of summary/abstracts of 700-1000 words for an edited volume, which will bring together the voices of established and emerging feminist scholars to explore innovative theoretical and practical applications of schizoanalysis to feminist theory.
We encourage submissions that address the relevance of schizoanalysis for contemporary developments in new materialism, affect theory, transnational feminism, political ontology, feminist critiques of globalization and capitalism, feminist pedagogy, anthropocene studies, new media, aesthetics and ethics. Submissions that address contemporary issues through these lenses are highly encouraged.
