Topics

The general subject of the conference are problems of philosophical ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science, and philosophy of mind that are formulated or solved using formal methods (as defined in logic, mathematics, formal linguistics, theoretical computer science, information science, AI) and/or with references to the results of natural and social sciences.

The following special topics will be addressed:

- use of formal methods in philosophy,
- philosophical analysis of scientific notions (natural law, matter, change, cause, chance, time, space, uncertainty, quantum phenomena, probability, social interaction),
- philosophical analysis of scientific methods (formalisms, rationality, values and norms, etc.),
- the role and use of scientific notions and methods in philosophy (formal systems in philosophy, critical analysis, systematic philosophy, etc.).

A special session will be organized under the title "Logic, concepts and communication".The session will address the following topics: the intensional foundations of logic and its primitive concepts, logical foundations of ontology, role of concepts in knowledge, logic and logical concepts in the context of inter-agent communication (in connection with the research project IP-2014-09-9378 funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, http://logiccom.projekti.ifzg.hr/doku.php).

The following panel discussion will be held: "Proposal of a BD/MD/PhD in philosophy on: Philosophy & Computer Science. A perspective for applied formal philosophy". Moderator: Gianfranco Basti, Pontifical Lateran University, Vatican City.

There will be also a PhD session with 20 minutes talks followed by 10 minutes discussion.

Language: English; conference fee: 80 EUR.

  • Please submit a 600 characters abstract for a 30 minutes talk (+ 10 minutes discussion).
  • Deadline for abstract submission: March 31, 2017. Please, indicate if the abstract is meant for a PhD session.

  • Notification of acceptance will be sent within one week after receiving the abstract.
