Call for Participation — Summer School “The Metaphysics of Time and Modality” 17 — 19 July 2017 / University of Bonn

The summer school adjoins the conference „Time and Modality. Medieval and Contemporary Perspectives “ (University of Bonn, 20 — 22 July 2017). The aim of the conference is to foster a dialogue between contemporary philosophers and historians of medieval philosophy in order to enrich our understanding of neo-Aristotelianism in metaphysics. We also aim at investigating the relationships between modalities and time in several theories of modalities, especially possible-world semantics and neo-Aristotelian essentialism.

Organisation: Elke Brendel (University of Bonn), Florian Fischer (University of Bonn) and Magali Roques (University of Hamburg)

The summer school is composed of two teaching blocks (Tuesday 17 morning and Thursday 19 morning) and three reading sessions (Tuesday 17 afternoon, Wednesday 18 morning and Thursday 19 afternoon). The afternoon of Wednesday is free.  The reading sessions will consist in a critical examination of the papers that will be given at the conference. The participants will have the opportunity to present the result of their work on the papers during the conference. The papers will be made available to the participants before the summer school.   The conference “Time and Modality. Medieval and Contemporary Perspectives” will take place just after the summer school (see http://s-p-o-t.weebly.com/time-and-modality.html). Conference speakers and provisional titles
