We are excited to announce the first Summer Reading School, hosted by the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (University of Kiel). The event with the topic of ‘Feminism and the Philosophy of Science’ will bring together international women* philosophy students. The special element of this Summer School is the ‘Close Reading’ sessions, in which students will read together, in small groups or individually. Each reading session will be followed by a ‘Discussion Session’, in which the texts will be analyzed and criticized. In addition, we have invited several women* researches to give evening lectures on the intersection of feminism and the philosophy of science:

Prof. Marianne Janack (Hamilton College)

Prof. Christine Blättler (University of Kiel)

Eddi Steinfeldt-Mehrtens, M.A. (University of Kiel)

Who is invited and who do we mean by women* philosophy students?

We understand women* to be anyone who considers themselves to be non-binary, genderqueer, or a woman. Specific knowledge in the topic of the Summer School is not required, however you should be at least in the second year of your undergraduate degree, on a graduate level, or a PhD candidate of philosophy. We also try to make the event as accessible as possible, i.e. childcare can be provided, and all rooms are wheelchair friendly.

Who is organising this event?

The event is hosted by Philosophy Department of the University of Kiel, but organised by four philosophy students from different academic institutions all over Europe.

How much does it cost?

There is no participation fee. Furthermore, we will provide free accommodation for all participants. Also, catering during the day will be provided and we aim to subsidize travel costs by a substantial amount, depending of course on where you come from.

Sponsors:

Institute of Arts and Humanities (Philosophische Fakultät) at the University of Kiel within the context of its Equality Committee

The PerLe-Fonds for innovative teaching, financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany)

IG Philosophie/PP at the University of Vienna.
