“Inclusive Pedagogies”

DEADLINE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2017

The Teaching Hub is a collaborative meeting space, co-sponsored by the APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT), that hosts a series of informative programs about the teaching of philosophy at divisional meetings of the APA. We invite abstracts for a 2018 Teaching Hub session on the topic of making teaching practices more inclusive for students coming from a variety of perspectives/backgrounds. We especially encourage submissions that offer concrete pedagogical strategies. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Assignment construction

  • Assessment strategies

  • Grading/grading criteria

  • Syllabus design

  • Guiding discussions on controversial topics

  • Creating community in the classroom

  • Universal Design

To submit an abstract for consideration, please email Rebecca Scott ([email protected]) by Friday, September 15, 2017, with the subject line “Inclusive Pedagogies Eastern APA.” In the body of the email, please include your name, institutional affiliation (if any), position (if any), and contact information. Attached to the email, please include an anonymized abstract of 500 to 750 words (in .doc, .docx, or .pdf form) describing both the focus of your presentation and what you hope the audience will take away from your presentation. The organizing committee will select 2–4 participants for the session by late September and will aim to assemble a panel that is diverse in many respects, including career stage and institutional affiliation.
