Etica&Politica/Ethics&Politics, the electronic philosophy journal published by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Trieste since 1999, invites contributions to a special issue on *Cooperation in nature, science, and society: formal models and conceptual issues*, to appear in December 2013.


Contributors from a variety of research areas, both inside and outside philosophy, are welcome. Relevant fields include (but are not limited to) philosophy of science, social epistemology, evolutionary epistemology, philosophy of law, ethics, and political philosophy, as well as (evolutionary and experimental) game theory, (behavioral and experimental) economics, and political theory. Topics that contributors may wish to address include (but are not limited to):

- Formal models of the emergence and evolution of cooperation;

- The rationality of cooperation: social dilemmas, problems of public goods provision, and tragedies of the commons;

- Economic analysis of scientific inquiry (“methodonomics”) and economics of scientific knowledge; science as a cooperative enterprise, the division of cognitive labor, science as a free market;

- Emergence of norms, conventions, rules, and other institutions; emergence of spontaneous orders and invisible hand models;

- Altruism and pro-social behavior in animals and humans; evolution of social and other-regarding preferences;

- Biological and cultural evolution and gene/meme co-evolution; (strong) reciprocity, group selection, imitation, multilevel selection theory;

- Evolution of political and economic preferences and behaviors.

Submission deadline: February 28, 2013

Prospective authors should send their contributions - prepared for blind review, maximum 24,000 characters - to the editor of E&P, Prof. Pierpaolo Marrone ([email protected]), or to the guest editor of the issue, Dr. Gustavo Cevolani ([email protected]). Invited contributions as well as submissions will be peer-reviewed.

Accepted papers will be published in E&P, volume XV, number 2, 2013 (scheduled to appear in December 2013).
