CFA: 2018 Princeton Workshop in Social Philosophy
Submission deadline: October 6, 2017
February 17, 2018 - February 18, 2018
Department of Philosophy, Princeton University
Princeton, United States
We are now accepting abstracts for the Princeton Workshop in Social Philosophy (PWISP) to be held February 17-18, 2018 in Princeton, New Jersey. The workshop is intended for early career scholars including graduate students, non-tenured faculty, and postdoctoral researchers. Our keynote speaker will be Serene J. Khader.
We are seeking high-quality submissions on topics in social philosophy. For this workshop we construe social philosophy very broadly as including, but by no means limited to: philosophy of race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, or disability, applied political philosophy, social / feminist epistemology, social choice theory, group agency, collective responsibility, social construction, speech acts, ideology, philosophy of social science, and altruism. We also encourage submissions that engage with philosophers, philosophies, and methods typically mis- or underrepresented in Anglo-American philosophy departments.
In addition to 30-40 min. presentations and 50-60 min. discussions, the workshop will include several smaller, casual teach-ins on topics, issues, and people important to research in social philosophy, but typically left out of the philosophy curriculum. The goal is to bring each other up to speed on something we should, but likely don’t, know. We gladly welcome proposals for teach-ins. These can be included in the body of your emailed submission.
Abstracts of not more than 1000 words should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted by October 6th to firstname.lastname@example.org. Successful applicants will be contacted in mid October.
We are pleased to offer financial support for travel and accommodation to scheduled speakers.
This workshop is supported by Princeton University Department of Philosophy, Princeton University Center for Human Values, and Princeton Minorities and Philosophy (princetonmap.weebly.com/pwisp).
