We invite submissions to our 12th annual graduate-student conference on memory. The event spans two days, beginning Friday afternoon with a symposium on preselected material relevant to the conference theme. All participants in the conference should plan to attend both the symposium on Friday and the subsequent presentations and keynote address on Saturday.

We invite both full-paper and abstract-only submissions on any topic related to the conference theme. Memory is of contemporary importance for many reasons. For example, the degree to which memory is necessary for perception leads to further questions about its effects on knowledge, time, subjectivity, and community. Furthermore, the degree to which memory constitutes relations among these things can have wide-ranging implications. Some topics for consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Relations memory establishes with, between, or among things like time, subjectivity, identity, knowledge, truth, imagination, and community
• Trauma and memory
• Memorializing history
• Memory and habit formation
• Significance of forgetting

Full-paper submissions should contain both a paper (not to exceed 3,500 words) and an abstract (not to exceed an additional 250 words). Selected submissions will be allotted a presentation time of 25 minutes. Abstract-only submissions should be a minimum of 750 words and include a brief bibliography. Our conference will include commenters. Therefore, following acceptance, completed papers/presentations must be provided no later than Friday, March 2, 2018. This will allow time for the commenters to prepare formal responses prior to the conference. If your submission is not selected for presentation and you wish to be subsequently considered as a commenter, specify your interest as directed below.

Please prepare all submissions for blind review. Include all identifying information either as a separate cover sheet or in the body of your submission email. Identifying information should include: the paper title; author’s name, email address, and institutional affiliation; and an indication of interest in participating as a commenter. Send submissions via email, as .doc or .pdf files, to [email protected]. Those interested in participating only as a commenter may email a statement of interest to the same address. If selected as a commenter, you will have at least one week to prepare comments. A formal rendering of those comments, as a .doc or .pdf file, must be provided via email no later than Friday, March 16, 2018.
