Details

The keynote speaker for this conference will be Sam Sullivan, the former mayor of Vancouver with paraplegia. He will be talking about his experiences with the election process, urban and citizenship issues, and disability advocacy.

The purpose of this conference is to bring together local and national disability theorists and policy-makers to discuss issues of respect, justice, equality, and policy for people with disabilities. Campus Disability Advocates seeks to bring these issues to the students and faculty at the University of Tennessee, to the citizens of the greater Knoxville area, and to the broader national community. We want the ideas fostered at this conference to have tangible effects in our city and across the nation.

This conference is part of a greater Disability Awareness Week initiative on the University of Tennessee’s campus. This week will consist of a forum of faculty and students to talk about issues and answer questions with the public, a showing of the documentary Citizen Sam about the mayoral election process for our keynote speaker Sam Sullivan, and an art show of works about disability downtown in Knoxville’s famous Market Square. We invite everyone to attend any one of these events throughout the week.

We are calling for abstracts for 25-minute talks on disability theory and policy.

To submit an abstract, email it to Lindsay Lee, president and founder of Campus Disability Advocates, at [email protected] with the following information:
