Details

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Windsor is hosting its 12th annual combined Undergraduate and Graduate Philosophy conference: Critical Reflections.

Critical Reflections is committed to providing a platform for students to present their work from any area of philosophy. Presenters are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion throughout the two-day event in order to network and engage in discussion with students and faculty. The broad scope of the conference brings diversity to the conference discourse.

The undergraduate portion of the conference is held on Friday, March 9th. Following the undergraduate presentations there will be a keynote address by Patricia Marino from the University of Waterloo. The subject of the talk and an abstract will be provided at a later date. The graduate section is held on the following day, March 10th. Since the conference is free and open to the public, presenters are more than welcome to bring or invite guests of their choosing to be part of the audience.

All students interested in participating are invited to submit a 250-400 word abstract for a 10-12 page paper (suitable for a 20 minute presentation). Presentations will be followed by a 10 minute question and answer period. Submissions from any area of philosophy are welcome, but only abstracts showing a high-degree of philosophical merit will be selected. The deadline for submissions is January 31st, 2018. Abstracts will be chosen through a blind review process and notice of acceptance can be expected within a few days after the deadline.

All submissions should be entered through our conference website:

http://scholar.uwindsor.ca/essaysofsignificance/ (Click “Submit Abstract”).

The conference website will be used to receive both undergraduate and graduate abstracts. For convenience, please indicate whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student when submitting your abstract.

Following the conference, proceedings will be published on the conference website. Graduate papers and selected undergraduate papers from the proceedings will be published open access and made available under Creative Commons Attribution license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/. Ample time will be given to edit work prior to the publication of the proceedings. Submission instructions will be given after the conclusion of the conference.

Some funding may be available for assisting students with accommodation costs.
