Details

Art history and Philosophy students of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade would like to invite students of all levels to the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Art which will be held from 9th to 11th of May 2018 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

The main goal of the Conference is to create a network of young scholars from different disciplines who research art. This includes connections on the social level – by giving the participants a chance to communicate, exchange ideas and contacts etc, and on the theoretical level – by providing them with insight into different disciplines’ stances, terminology, analysis tools, process of choosing a research problem etc. It is our belief that this kind of cooperation would lay the foundations for further international and interdisciplinary partnership and it would help create a common framework which would enhance the quality of the research of art.

The theme of the Conference is Autonomy in Arts and Humanities. This may include (but is not limited to):

  • autonomy of art (e.g. autonomy of the artist, autonomy of the artwork, autonomy of perception of art)

  • autonomy of art research in humanities (e.g. autonomy of the researcher from the political context, academia, public opinion; autonomy of art history from philosophy or any other discipline)

  • autonomy of aesthetic value (e.g. autonomy of aesthetic value from moral or political value)

  • autonomy of interpretation (e.g. autonomy of interpretation from artist’s intention)

  • autonomy of art-oriented institutions (museums, institutes, universities)

Each participant will have 20 minutes to present her or his work, accompanied by visual presentation, with 15-minute discussion on each panel. Written papers will be submitted after the Conference. The official language of the Conference is English so both the oral and visual presentations, as well as written papers, must be in English.

Applications should be submitted to the organizers (e-mail address: [email protected] ) before the 1st of March 2018. The application should include 2 files:

  1. Info file with your personal information: name and surname, university, faculty, department, level of study.

  2. Abstract of your paper of 500-700 words which should present your main thesis alongside with a shortened version of the arguments supporting your thesis.

The selected participants will be notified by the 15th of March 2018.

Participation in the Conference is free of charge. There is a possibility that the accommodation for foreign participants will be provided – further information on this issue will be updated on the Conference website. Other travel expenses are not included.
