The 2018 Conference of the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics focuses specifically on the question whether we are on our way to a post-liberal world. Arguably, political and public discourse is increasingly characterised by the re-emergence of nationalist narratives, a lack of support for and misuse of the idea of human rights, and growing sentiments of anti-intellectualism. To what extent have dominant conceptions of liberalism fuelled disenfranchisement of a growing number of people from democratic values? Do these tendencies undermine the liberal consensus (if there ever was one)? How should those committed to the idea of a liberal, democratic world and human rights react to these tendencies?
