We are excited to announce the second Summer Reading School, hosted by the University of Vienna. The event with the topic of ‘Feminism and the Philosophy of Language’ will bring together international women* philosophy students. The special element of this Summer School is the ‘Close Reading’ sessions, in which students will read together, in small groups, or individually. Each reading session will be followed by a ‘Discussion Session’, in which the texts will be analyzed and challenged. In addition, we have invited several women* researchers to give evening lectures on the intersection of feminism and the philosophy of language:

Dr. Helen Daly (Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Colorado College)

Prof. Marina Sbisà (Professor of Philosophy, University of Trieste)

Dr. Lynne Tirrell (Associate Professor of Philosophy, University of Connecticut)

Who is invited and who do we mean by women* philosophy students?

We encourage any motivated and interested woman* student in philosophy to apply. We understand women* to be anyone who considers themselves to be non-binary, genderqueer, or a woman. Specific knowledge in the topic of the Summer School is not required, however you should be at least in the second year of your undergraduate degree, on a graduate level, or a PhD candidate of philosophy. We also try to make the event as accessible as possible, i.e. childcare can be provided, and all rooms are wheelchair friendly. We especially encourage any women* who consider themselves to be part of a minority or an underrepresented group to apply.

Who is organizing this event?

The event is hosted by the Philosophy Department at the University of Vienna, but organised by five philosophy students from different academic institutions all over Europe.

How much does it cost?

There is no participation fee. Furthermore, we will provide free accommodation for all participants. Also, catering during the day will be provided and we aim to subsidize travel costs by a substantial amount, depending of course on where you come from.
