Details

This event is in conjunction with the Society for Middle Eastern and North African Philosophers. The aim of the conference is to bring together MENA theorists to promote contemporary MENA theory, debate the racialization of and violence against MENA peoples, as well as providing a regular space for philosophers to meet and organize. Anyone is welcome to participate in the public sessions.

In addition to the conference, a semester long class will be taught at UAH focusing on the work of the conference participants. Should one be invited to present, a sample work for that class must be provided. Additionally, the conference has a preliminary agreement with the Critical Philsophy of Race to dedicate a special issue to the conference themes. Thus, any submitted conference proposals must be original and unpublished.

Applicants who wish to present at the conference should send a CV and a paper title along with a 250 word abstract by December 10. Acceptable topics include questions of identity, secularism, feminisms, orientalism, islamaphobia, but might include other themes relevant to the Middle East and North Africa.

Send abstracts to [email protected] with the subject title 'MENA'. Any questions should also be directed to John Harfouch at [email protected]
