CFP: 11th Annual York University Philosophy Graduate Conference

Our 11th annual conference, which will be held on April 25-26 2019, will focus on the nature and significance of emotions. We will accept submissions on epistemology, ethics, metaethics, aesthetics, philosophy of action, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and political philosophy.

Papers that address any of the following questions are especially encouraged:

What are emotions? How do emotions factor into our self-awareness? Is there a coherent distinction between cognition and emotion? What do models of emotion show about the nature of minds? How does research into emotion help us understand consciousness? What is the role of phenomenology in our understanding of emotions? How do emotions inform our understanding of personal identity and social phenomena? What is the role of emotion in our moral practices? How does emotion influence norms around apology, forgiveness, and blame? How do emotions interact with epistemic norms such as reliability and trustworthiness? What role does emotion play in liberatory politics? What is the role of emotion in our appraisals of art?

Authors are invited to submit extended abstracts (800-1000 words) to [email protected]. The documents should be prepared for blind review. Speakers will be given 25 minutes to deliver their presentations. Papers will have commentaries by invited graduate students of York University. We are deeply committed to inclusivity and diversity in philosophy – we welcome submissions from underrepresented groups in the field.

The deadline for submissions will be the 28th of February.

Notifications will be sent out the 17th of March.
