Details

The conference addresses the legacy, the internal conflicts and the perspectives of ‘humanism’.

Living as we do in what has been called the dawn of a post- or trans-humanist age, may we have the claim to view the conflicts of 20th-century humanism and reductive anti-humanism with hindsight?

If the premises of biotechnology are fully taken into account, is a meaningful conversation about human teleology, and the defining boundaries of the human being, still conceivable today? Finally, within the humanist conundrum that we face, does the idea of “human measure” traditionally put forward by Italian humanism, merit debate? What synthesising concepts of humanism can be shown to hold – and eschew both bathos and naiveté?
