We are pleased to announce the Ninth Philosophy of Biology and Cognitive Sciences Research Workshop (PBCS 9) (https://pbcs9workshop.wixsite.com/pbcs9workshop ) which will be held at the University of the Basque Country and hosted by the IAS-Research Centre for Life, Mind & Society in San Sebastián (Spain) on the 9th and 10th of May 2019.

The Research Workshop on Philosophy of Biology and Cognitive Sciences is an annual meeting that aims to bring together young scholars exploring issues of common interest at the intersection of philosophy, biology and cognitive sciences. The call is addressed to graduate, master, and PhD students, as well as doctors who finished their dissertations within the last three years, and who are working on the areas of Philosophy of Biology and Cognitive Science. The invited speakers of this year are Dr Gaëlle Pontarotti (Université Paris-Diderot/IHPST) and Dr Manuel Heras Escribano (Universidad del País Vasco/IAS).

Applicants must send a detailed summary of the contribution to [email protected] by 15 February 2019. Summaries, which can be sent in .doc, .odt, or .pdf format, must not exceed 1000 words. The contributions are expected to indicate the title of the talk, highlight the relevance of the topic for the event and present the main arguments. They can be written in English or Spanish. Applicants must send two copies of the summary: one will contain the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s) and email contact. The second one will not include names, affiliations, email contact or any kind of information that could reveal the authorship of the document. Each talk will last no more than 20-30 minutes followed by a 10-15 minutes discussion.

Relevant dates are indicated as follows:

  • Call for Papers opening: December 15th.
  • Deadline Abstract submission: February 15th. 
  • Evaluation of the scientific committee: March 15th.
  • Abstract acceptance: March 30th.
