The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists invites everyone to participate in the Libori Summer School 2019. From July 29 – August 2, 2019, the third international Libori Summer School will take place at Paderborn University. This year, we will focus on the topic ‘Teaching Women Philosophers’ in two parallel Libori Summer Schools, one in English and one in German language.

This concept offers the opportunity for scholars and students from all over the world to come together and work on innovative ways to integrate women philosophers into the syllabus. To register for this event, please send an informal e-mail with relevant data about yourself and your interest in the course to [email protected] until July 14, 2019. The conference fee is 50€ and lunch will be provided, a discount is possible upon request. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive your certificate during the closing ceremony on Friday, August 2, 2019. It is possible to either attend for the whole week or on one or more days.

Our invited guests for the English section are: Sarah Hutton (University of York, UK); Sabrina Ebbersmeyer (University of Copenhagen, Germany/Denmark); Ronny Miron (Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv); Luka Boršić and Ivana Skuhala Karasman (University of Zagreb, Croatia); Antonio Calcagno (King’s University College, Canada).

Experts on the history of women philosophers will present the topic ‘Teaching Women Philosophers’ in the German section with texts on Elisabeth of Bohemia, Olympe de Gouge, Émilie Du Châtelet Edith Stein, Gerda Walther and Hannah Arendt.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Libori Summer School! Further information about the Libori Summer School can be found on our website. The preliminary program is now available.

As part of the German section of the Summer School, we will organize a round of discussions on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.  Dieter Birnbacher (Düsseldorf University), Ruth Hagengruber (Paderborn University), Sarah Hutton (University of York, UK), and Maria Nühlen (Merseburg University of Applied Sciences) will discuss with the audience in what way women philosophers can and should be part of the syllabus. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is open to all interested parties; registration also closes on July 14, 2019.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

We are looking forward to your participation!
