The Academia Kantiana of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University invites applications for participation in the Second Immanuel Kant International Summer School.

Kant’s transcendental philosophy has often been described as a philosophy of science, or at least as a philosophy which is most closely related to the sciences of his times – and one in which his concept of reason plays a central role. The 2019 summer school is devoted on Kant’s views on the meanings and roles of reason for the sciences as well as its historical impact. Three aspects will take center stage: (1) the role of “constitutive” a priori knowledge for the sciences; (2) the role of “regulative” ideas of pure reason for the sciences; (3) the definition of the different sciences, and their classification by an “architectonics of reason”.

The summer school will focus on the analysis of central passages from Kant’s works, including publications on the natural and the human sciences as well as texts from his critical works. Furthermore, the school will also address the long-term historical impact of his philosophical thinking about the sciences.

The summer school consists of lectures, seminars, and readings. Within the framework of the summer school there will also be a scientific conference, in which participants will give their own presentations on a research topic related to Kant’s philosophy, and discuss it with colleagues from different universities of Russia and the world.

At the end of the summer school the participants will be given a certificate of their participation.
