The interdisciplinary conference „Rethinking the European City: New Conceptions and the Living Heritage” continues the work already started at our previous conference entitled „Citizenship, UrbanDevelopment and Municipal Models in Hungary and Europe - Medium and Small Cities”. During our previous conference philosophers, architects and urbanists discussed the current issues of urban coexistence. At that time we focused on middle and small towns while also discussing the need for a definition of the city, and specifically the European one. The discussions also highlighted the need to analyse the attitudes of contemporary designers and citizens toward the built and cultural heritage. In addition to the philosophical, urban and social science theories of the city, our conference focuses on the phenomenon of highly differentiated industrialized metropolitan areas in Central and Eastern Europe. The purpose of the interdisciplinary conference is to invite experts from the Visegrád countries and, in a broader sense, from Central-Eastern Europe to collaborate.
