The workshop will explore how claims about the nature of deliberation and choice fit with the truth (or even possibility) of determinism.
Submissions might adress one or more the following questions (this list is not exaustive):
i) how can we make sense of moral and practical deliberation if determinism is true or possibly true?
ii) What does that tell us about the nature of moral and practical deliberation?Does practical deliberation presuppose believing that one can do otherwise, and if so, in what sense?
iii) Does deliberation and decision-making presuppose an epistemically open future, and if so, in what sense?
iv) Does a rational deliberator take into account all her beliefs about the future, or does she screen off, e.g., beliefs about her own future actions?
v) How might our credences in determinist hypotheses interact with which outcomes we take seriously for the sake of deliberation?
