CALL FOR PAPERS
BRAK (Brno Analytic Circle), in cooperation with the Department of Philosophy and Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University, invites you to conference on cognition and lying CaL2019.
CaL2019 follows the previous conference CaL2017 (Cognition and Language) in its effort to show how cognitive science can endorse traditional philosophical topics. This time, the topic at hand is lying and deception – ubiquitous phenomenon, interesting not only in its moral controversy but also in its persistent presence in our everyday lives. CaL2019 tries to present a variety of possible approaches to this topic, from philosophical to psychological and neuroscientific.

Possible topics includes, but are not limited to:
• Definition of lying and deception; • Evolutionary justification of lying; • Psychology of lying; • Neuroscientific look on deception; • Fake news; • Means of manipulation in media and marketing; • Moral controversy of lying; • Self-deception.

Key-note speaker
We are happy to announce that the keynote speaker for conference is

Prof. James Edwin Mahon.

James E. Mahon is Dean of Arts & Humanities at the City University of New York, Lehman College. His professional interest lies in the philosophy of lying and deception, but he is also an expert in areas of applied ethics, metaethics and normative ethics, especially Kant and Mill.

Submissions
Submissions of proposals of contributed talks (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion) on topics of lying and cognitive science are welcomed. The proposal should contain abstract (300–600 words) with author(s) name(s), affiliation(s) and e-mail address and should be in two formats, docx and pdf.

Registration and Payment
Authors of accepted talks will be asked to download and complete a registration form (concerning diets and additional agenda) and return prior to 15. 10. 2019 to [email protected]
The payment amount for active participation is 500 CZK or 20 EUR. Details of payment will be available after notification of acceptance.

Post Conference Publication
Authors of selected talks will be invited to prepare extended papers of their work for submission to the special issue of journal Pro-Fil.
