CFP: 2020 Research Awards for the Theology, Science, and Knowledge Project

The Theology, Science, and Knowledge project, supported by the John Templeton Foundation and hosted at the University of Missouri--St. Louis, seeks applications for research proposals on the project theme. Successful applications will be funded at amounts between $5,000 and $15,000, depending on the total number of applications that are successful and the amount of work to be undertaken. 

The project explores connections between issues in contemporary philosophy, especially in epistemology and the philosophy of religion, and Medieval Islamic thought. More details can be found at the project website: theologyscienceandknowledge.org. 

Applications will be considered for proposed research papers on any topic that is connected to the project theme. Research proposals may be focused on one area within the project theme (e.g., Islamic thought or contemporary philosophy of religion) but should indicate, where relevant, connections to other areas. Applicants should have a clear plan to have a research project completed by the end of the summer of 2020. Completed work will be eligible for publication in a special edition of Res Philosophica; applicants should indicate whether they would be willing to contribute the completed funded work to this issue.

Successful applicants will also be invited to attend a small summer seminar hosted and paid for by the project in St. Louis from May 15-16. Applicants should also indicate whether they can commit to attending the summer seminar in their application.

Contribution to the Res Philosophica issue and participation in the summer seminar are not required for a successful application. Applications should consist of 2-3 double-spaced pages which describe the proposed work to be undertaken and should be accompanied by a short bibliography and a CV.
