South Carolina Society for Philosophy Annual Meeting

Keynote Speaker: Jennifer M. Morton, Associate Professor of Philosophy, The University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill (starting January 2020)

Submissions: Faculty and students (graduate and undergraduate) from anywhere in the world are invited to submit abstracts for the 2020 Meeting of the South Carolina Society for Philosophy (joint meeting with the North Carolina Philosophical Society). Papers on any philosophical topic are welcome. 

Abstracts of 400–500 words must be submitted by Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Abstracts should be submitted via the form (link below) in such a way that is conducive to blind review. All submissions must have a title. Please select the category (or two) that best fits the argument in your paper. When completing the form, include all requested contact information. If you wish your paper to be considered for a prize (see below), please note this and indicate whether you are an untenured faculty member, graduate student, or undergraduate.

Submission Instructions: Abstracts should be submitted at the link provided in the website: https://www.southcarolinaphilosophy.org/2020-call-for-abstracts. If you would like to be considered for a prize, email your submission to [email protected] by February 1, 2020. Please use the subject line "2020 SCSP Submission." All submissions for essay prizes should be no longer than 3000 words. 

Location: All sessions will be held on the campus of UNC–Asheville in Asheville, NC. The city of Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, around 100 miles from Charlotte, NC. It is served locally by the Asheville Regional Airport (AVL).

Panels and Workshops: Panel and workshop proposals on any topic in philosophy, including its pedagogy, are welcome. Proposals should specify issues to be discussed, format (including time to be allotted), and names of presenters, and should include brief abstracts of presentations.

Underrepresented Voices in Philosophy: The Society particularly encourages submissions from participants whose work and/or presence in the profession centers on historically underrepresented questions, issues, themes, figures, and/or methods of inquiry.

Prizes: The conference committee will award essay prizes for authors in the following three categories: non-tenured faculty at a South Carolina institution; graduate student at a South Carolina institution; and undergraduate student at a South Carolina institution. All authors wishing to be considered for one of these essay prizes must submit both an abstract by January 1 (using the instructions above) and also submit their full paper, prepared for blind review, by February 1, 2020. Final papers for essay prizes should be no longer than 3000 words.
