CFP: Tenth Mid-Hudson Valley Undergraduate Philosophy Conference

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Marist College will host the Tenth Mid-Hudson Valley Undergraduate Philosophy Conference 27-28 March 2020. Undergraduates are encouraged to submit papers on any topic in philosophy. The conference is selective, accepting at most six papers. There are no concurrent presentations. Each paper presentation includes comments from another undergraduate from either Marist College's philosophy program or from one of the other philosophy programs at four other colleges in the Mid-Hudson Valley Region of Upstate New York.

Papers accepted for presentation are eligible for consideration for publication in the sixth volume of the annual Marist Undergraduate Philosophy Journal.

The keynote speaker this year will be Quayshawn Spencer, The Robert S. Blank Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Spencer's research has focused on metaphysical issues in the philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, and the philosophy of race, including questions that lie at the intersection of these three areas. He is one of the authors (along with Joshua Glasgow, Sally Haslanger, and Chike Jeffers) of What is Race? Four Philosophical Views (Oxford University Press, 2019). Dr. Spencer's work has appeared in various journals, including the Aristotelian Society Supplementary Volume, Philosophy Compass, Philosophy of Science, Philosophical Studies, and elsewhere.
