Chicagoland Graduate Philosophy Conference: Self and Other
To be held on April 24-25 of 2020 at University of Illinois at Chicago
Keynote Speakers:
Richard Moran (Harvard University)
Jennifer Lackey (Northwestern University)
Graduate students at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, and University of Illinois at Chicago invite paper submissions on any topic related to the conference theme broadly construed, but submissions of high quality are also considered whether or not they relate to the theme. Potential topics for consideration include, but are not limited to, the following:
· The intersubjective dimension of speech acts
· Testimonial knowledge and social epistemology
· Philosophy of mind and explanations of “self” or “self-consciousness”
· Ethical significance of the concept of self and its intersubjectivity
· Personal Identity—metaphysical explanations and or its ethical significance
· Knowledge of self and other
· The socially constructed “self” and “other”
· Aesthetic perspectives on belonging or alienation
· The politics and power of inclusion (or exclusion)
· First personal perspective, third personal perspective and the relationship between them
Submission guidelines:
· All submissions must be prepared for blind review, with identifying information (name, affiliated institution, email address) included only in the body of your submission email/as a separate cover sheet
· Submitted papers must be no more 3500 words in length
· Submitted papers must include at the top an abstract of no more than 250 words
· Submitted papers must be sent as .doc, .docx, or .pdf files to [email protected]
