Call for Papers: Philosophy and Its Forms of Expression. History and Evolution.

P.O.I. – Points of Interest 6-7 (I-II/2020) (December)

(ITALIAN BELOW)

The theme is to be developed in accordance with the criteria and terms further indicated, on the basis of the following considerations.

This double issue will be dedicated to investigate how modes of expression of philosophical thought change according to authorial intents and philosophical/historical contexts. The adoption of different modus comunicandi is always the result of a targeted choice made by the author in expressing a particular idea. Already in the ancient world, in fact, we can observe the use of different models of diffusion of philosophical thought: from the centrality of stylistic expression in the Sophistic to the Platonic appeal to the dialogical form, up to the philosophical-theological treatises of late Neoplatonism and the early Christian age; then, Modernity proves to be an extraordinary laboratory to draw on to study the importance of expressive form for the ideas thereby expressed (as it was, for example, for Descartes’ Meditationes de Prima Philosophia and for Spinoza’s Ethica more geometrico demonstrata); finally, in contemporary times, we are witnessing a massive reemergence of dissemination of thought through forms such as letters, lectures and conferences. These different approaches are still present today in digital communication, on the web: in fact, it is no accident that philosophical thought is now also spread through channels such as blogs, streaming and video playlists.

This call for papers is aimed at investigating the history of the forms of expression and / or writing of philosophy, with particular attention to the “channels” of communication of philosophical knowledge over the centuries, and focusing on considering the end pursued by the author in preferring one style to another.

We welcome submissions on all topics related to the theme. For example:

·         Historical-philosophical investigation of the ways in which philosophical knowledge was disseminated;

·         Philosophical analysis of writing systems (e.g. structure and purpose of the treatise / dialogue / epistle) and of the way in which the form intervenes in essentially defining the content;

·         The philosophical influence that publishers have exercised in the collection of works and / or notes by other authors (such as for Aristotle, Plotinus and Hegel);

·         Contemporary forms of philosophical communication.

For procedures and terms of submission, kindly note the following:

  • All participants are required to send an abstract, which will undergo prior evaluation by the editorial board and will be selected on the basis of its relevance to the issue as stated in the CfP.
  • Abstracts (about 2,000 characters, including spaces) submission deadline: March 15, 2020.
  • The results of the evaluation will be communicated to each participant individually within a week after the expiry of the deadline.

P.O.I. – Points of Interest: 6-7 (I-II/2020) (dicembre)

·         Indagine storico-filosofica sulle modalità con cui il sapere filosofico è stato diffuso;

·         Analisi filosofica dello stile di determinate opere (ex: struttura e finalità del trattato/ dialogo/ epistola);

·         L’influenza filosofica che gli editori hanno esercitato nella raccolta di opere e/o appunti di altri autori (come per Aristotele, Plotino e Hegel);

2000 caratteri ciascuno, spazi inclusi), 5 parole-chiave o tag in lingua originale e in inglese; dovranno includere inoltre l’indirizzo e-mail dell’autore.
