Details

The Joint Program in Ancient Philosophy at the University of Texas is pleased to announce that the 36th annual Ancient Philosophy Workshop will be held this year in Austin. In keeping with workshop tradition, we invite proposals on any problem, figure, or issue in ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, and we encourage proposals from junior scholars and work in progress.   Workshop sessions will begin on Friday morning, March 22, and conclude Saturday evening, March 23. All sessions will be held on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Proposals.  Papers are allotted 35 minutes for oral presentation and should be of suitable length (about 5,000 words) to allow for a prepared response and open discussion.  To propose a paper, send an abstract of 300-500 words to [email protected] under the heading “Workshop proposal.” Provide your contact information in the body of your email but do not include your name or other identifying information in the abstract itself. Proposers should be prepared to deliver complete drafts to respondents within three weeks of acceptance notices.

Respondents.  Most presentations will receive prepared responses. Some whose proposals are not selected may be invited to participate as respondents.

Deadlines.   Proposals are due no later than Friday, February 1, 2013. We will notify proposers of selections by February 8. Papers are due to respondents by Friday, March 1.
