The LGBTQ Advocacy Committee

Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy

Annual Meeting in Rochester, New York

September 23-25, 2021

The SPEP LGBTQ Advocacy Committee invites abstracts for papers on the theme of “pandemics” for the coming annual SPEP 2021 conference, scheduled in Rochester, New York on September 23rd-25th.

In light of the change, loss, and uncertainty that the recent COVID-19 pandemic is wreaking on the world, the committee is interested in papers that address philosophical questions or concerns raised by pandemics. Potential topics include philosophical questions or concerns raised by other pandemics – past, present, or future. The committee is also interested in papers that address experiences and concepts made especially salient in light of pandemics – solitude and isolation, community and connection, vulnerability and embodiment, biopolitics and bioethics, repression and state violence, public information and misinformation, xenophobia and structural racism, mourning, futurity, and intimacy, among others.

The committee particularly welcomes papers by LGBTQ scholars or emphasizing LGBTQ people or concerns in regard to the abovementioned theme. Please submit abstracts of no more than 150 words to [email protected] by January 20, 2021.
