Details

Join us at the Philosophers’ Book Club as we discuss Tolstoy's The Death of Ivan Ilyich. Notable for its unflinching portrayal of the process of dying and centrally concerned with the question how to live a meaningful life, Ivan Ilyich is one of the great novellas. In this event, Thomas Karshan and Olga Sobolev discuss Tolstoy's philosophical ideas, his work, and his life.

At the Philosophers’ Book Club, we select a work of fiction for philosophical dissection. Although you are encouraged to read the book in advance, it is by no means necessary.

Speakers

  • Olga Sobolev, Programme Director BSc Language, Culture and Society, LSE
  • Thomas Karshan, Senior Lecturer in Literature, University of East Anglia
