Conference: The Significance of Work

August 26-27, Tilburg University

Work plays a central role in our lives: it takes up our time and is experienced as burdensome by many workers, but we also develop our skills through work, it provides us with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society, and it motivates our education. At the same time, technological advances are increasingly changing the way we work, and may significantly affect the amount we work.

In this expert conference, we bring together philosophers from different fields of philosophy to analyze the significance and meaning of work, especially in light of the rapidly evolving labor market.

Confirmed speakers:
Joanna Ciulla
John Danaher
Lisa Herzog
Todd Mei
Andrea Veltman
Jonathan Wolff

We have space for three more external speakers on our program. We invite papers that deal with the topic “the Significance of Work” broadly construed, from ethics, political philosophy, philosophical anthropology, or philosophy of technology.

In order to apply, submit an anonymized 350-500 word abstract to [email protected], before March 15, 2021. We will invite three speakers after an anonymous peer-review of the abstracts. We aim to let the speakers know by the 1st of April.

Do not hesitate to email us with any questions you may have.
