Dr. Anne S.Waters, J.D., Ph.D. Seminole, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, and Jewish descent; a CIC (Council of Independent Colleges), GPPC (Greater Philadelphia Philosophy Consortium), NWSA (National Women Studies Association), Pergamon Press, Liberty Fund, Helen Steiner, and Rockefeller scholar; and recipient of NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) and NSF (National Science Foundation) grants. Holds J.D. (Juris Doctorate-1992) from The University of New Mexico Law School, and Ph.D. (in Philosophy-1992) from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. Physically and psychologically challenged, retired philosopher, poet, lawyer, editor, mediator, and feminist, published in several international philosophy and American Indian journals and anthologies. Edited the only anthology by American Indians holding a Ph.D. in philosophy, American Indian Thought: Philosophical Essays (Blackwell,Oxford 2003), co-edited first American philosophy anthology of diverse and minority voices, American Philosophies: An Anthology (Blackwell, Oxford 2003), co-guest edited special issue of Hypatia, A Journal of Feminist Philosophy: Indigenous Women in the Americas (Indiana U Press 2003). As co-editor of Living Indigenous Philosophies Series (SUNY Press), published The Dance of Person and Place: One Interpretation of American Indian Philosophy, and Listening to Ourselves: A Multilingual Anthology of African Philosophy. Founder and past chair (twice) of the American Philosophical Association (APA) Native American and Indigenous Philosophy Committee, originating editor and current co-editor of the APA Newsletter on Native American and Indigenous Philosophy. Serves on APA Board of Officers Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion. Wrote/Filed several Appellate Legal Briefs (2007-15), and taught many Philosophy and Native American graduate courses in 11 universities and two colleges. Member, Phi Sigma Tau (Philosophy) and Barrister Phi Delta Phi (Legal Ethics) Honor Societies.
