Dear Postgraduate Philosophers,

the 2nd Munich Graduate Conference in Ethics will take place at the University of Munich (LMU) on July 1st/2nd 2021. It will be the second of a series of annual graduate conferences focussed on topics in ethics, broadly conceived. It will offer postgraduate researches a friendly environment to present their work and gain feedback, to establish valuable contacts to other early career researchers, as well as address and discuss early career issues.

Kindly hosted by the Munich Centre for Ethics (Münchner Kompetenzzentrum Ethik, MKE), we will invite ten graduate speakers to present their work on any topic in ethics, including metaethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of action as well as related areas. The keynote lectures will be given by Ulrike Heuer (UCL) and Hilkje Hänel (Potsdam). In addition, we will run an academic career workshop with a special focus on prospects for members of underrepresented groups in academia. The conference language will be English. Currently we are aiming at a hybrid format which hopefully will allow at least the graduate speakers from Europe to participate in person. We'll provide further information on this as soon as possible.

We invite submissions by current MA students, PhD students as well as researchers who have completed their PhD in 2019 or later. Speakers will be asked to give talks of 20min, which will be followed by a short commentary by PhD students from LMU and about 15min of discussion.

Please submit abstracts of no more than 500 words in an anonymised PDF document at [email protected]. Please include the author’s name and institutional affiliation as well as the title and area of the talk in your email.

For further information visit our website.

Please direct any questions and inquiries to [email protected].

The deadline for submissions is March 31st. We aim to get back to applicants by May 1st. Successful participants will be required to submit a full paper or script by June 15th to be passed on to commentators.

We explicitly aim for this conference to be maximally diverse, regarding both speakers and topics. We are also committed to creating a supportive and friendly environment for everyone. All participants are free to leave the conference at any time for any reason. If needed, we aim to be able to provide childcare for invited speakers. If you have any other requirements facilitating your attendance, do not hesitate to get in touch.

We very much encourage members of underrepresented groups in philosophy to apply. Feel free to indicate in your email if you identify as a member of these groups (and please note that this information is not mandatory).

The conference is kindly supported by the Munich Centre for Ethics (MKE), Gesellschaft für Analytische Philosophie e.V. (GAP), the faculty's Mentoring Program for Female Philosophers (LMUMentoring), the LMU Graduate Center, and the Society for Women in Philosophy Germany (SWIP).
