Details

The Faculty of Law and the Department of Politics and Public Administration of the University of Hong Kong are pleased to announce their first joint postgraduate conference in Legal and Political Theory, to take place via Zoom on May 5, 6, and 7 2021 (16:00—19:30 HKT/SGT or 9:00—12:30 BST) tentatively. The theme of this year’s conference is Global Justice.

The conference aims to give graduate students and academics from a range of fields, working on topics related to the conference theme, the opportunity to present and discuss their works and to receive feedback from their peers and from our distinguished keynote speakers: Professor Jonathan Wolff (University of Oxford), Professor Chandran Kukathas (Singapore Management University), and Dr. Kieran Oberman (University of Edinburgh).

We particularly welcome abstract submissions from scholars in philosophy, political theory, international relations theory, and legal theory.

Topics for discussion could include, but are not limited to:

  • Migration ethics
  • The ethics of violence
  • Distributive, transitional, and intergenerational justice
  • Environmental ethics
  • Cosmopolitanism and nationalism
  • Human rights
  • Globalisation
  • Liberalism and authoritarianism

Abstracts should be around 500 words, and speakers should be prepared to deliver a paper presentation of around 20 minutes. The deadline for abstract submissions is 31st March 2021, with speakers being informed of the outcome approximately three weeks from that date.

If you wish to apply, please submit an anonymized abstract with the paper’s title to [email protected] for blind review, with ‘Application to Legal and Political Theory Conference’ as the subject line. Your name and institutional affiliation shall be included in the body of the email. Do not hesitate to email us with any inquiries you may have.
