Details

Short papers are requested for a student conference hosted in association with the Philosophy Department at Newcastle University.

The aim of the conference is to showcase the interdisciplinary capacity of philosophy and to provide students with the opportunity to present their research in a student-led conference setting. We feature both undergraduate and postgraduate research that either engages with applied philosophy or philosophy that is interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary by nature. As we aim to explore philosophy across disciplines, we also encourage students from any academic backgrounds to apply. We accept both recent graduates and current students.

To apply, you need to send a 300 to 500 word abstract. Your abstract should include:

  • Theoretical basis (the area of philosophy engaged with, naming scholars and texts)

  • Interdisciplinary element (other discipline/s or non-philosophical topic engaged with)

  • A thesis statement (research aims or results)

The deadline for applications is the 12th April 2021. Applications should be made through the form available at the following link: https://forms.ncl.ac.uk/view.php?id=9739699

If you submit an abstract and are accepted, you will be expected to give a 10-minute talk followed by a 5-minute space for questions. Please consider the amount of research that can be covered given this time frame. There is also the option to present as part of a group panel on a shared theme. Advice on how to write an abstract on a group panel is included on the application form.
