Do you bring comedy clips into teaching philosophy? Tell us how!

The Blog of the American Philosophical Association’s Teaching and Learning Video Series is putting forward a call for submissions for teaching philosophy through humorous videos. These can be ads, shorts, clips from movies and TV, or standup comedy to name a few. Videos can come from Youtube or well-known and trustworthy video platforms regularly used for educational purposes. Accepted submissions will be published on the Blog of the American Philosophical Association.

This series focuses on how instructors are incorporating technology and videos into philosophy courses and pedagogy. Each post of the series is written by a philosopher who has incorporated humorous videos into their pedagogy. This series uses searchable tags and an index for instructors considering the use of video on various philosophical topics in their courses.

While still a very new series, the Teaching and Learning Video Series has previously published submissions by Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows at the University of Nevada and Durham University as well as Assistant Professors at University of Minnesota, Florida Gulf Coast University, and San Diego State University.

Submissions:

  • Deadline: April 30th, 2021.

Length: 400 - 1500 words.


Each post requires (1) a few sentences introducing the video, (2) a link to the video, and (3) a longer description of how you incorporated the video into your philosophy course.
