CFP: Emerging Philosophies of Religion in Southeast Asia - 2nd Summit of the Union of Societies and Associations of Philosophy in the Philippines

Southeast Asia is home to most of the world religions. Buddhism is predominantly practised in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia; Islam in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei; and Christianity in the Philippines and Timor-Leste. Historical data show, however, that these world religions are imported cultural products, and have been reimagined, assimilated, and appropriated by the cultures that embraced them.

Each of the appropriated religions of Southeast Asia might imply a culturally nuanced worldview. This worldview might impact how the traditional problems in the philosophy of religion are framed and answered.

Our main question in this summit is whether there a uniquely Southeast Asian way in which the main questions in the philosophy of religion, such as the nature of the divine, free will, death and afterlife, are framed and answered.
