The Virginia Philosophical Association will meet for its annual conference on October 29-30 at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Paper Submission Deadline:  July 1, 2021

We welcome submissions in any area of philosophy from faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars. Papers should be no longer than 4,500 words. Please prepare the paper for blind review and include a brief abstract. Email papers to Andrew Kissel, [email protected], with 'VPA Submission' in the subject line. Commentators will be solicited from those whose papers are not selected, please indicate in your submission whether you would be willing to comment.

The conference will be a hybrid online/ in-person event.  Covid-19 regulations permitting, the in-person component will be held at Old Dominion University  in Norfolk, Virginia.

The conference will include submitted presentations (with commentators) from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. The conference also includes two invited talks, one of which takes place at the end of the Friday night meal. The meeting concludes with a brief meeting to handle VPA business, followed by the humorously wrought but seriously intended "Resolution of Thanks" to the host institution.

The VPA charges no dues or registration fees for the meeting and ODU will provide an evening meal on Friday.

  • All faculty or graduate students in philosophy at a Virginia college or university (or those with equivalent competence and interest in philosophy) are invited to submit papers to the conference, participate in the conference, and vote on officers.
  • Philosophers from other states are also welcome to submit papers to the conference and participate in the conference.
  • All philosophy undergrads, other undergrads, and community members are welcome to participate
