Details

We invite applications for an online Metaphysics of Pregnancy Summer School running from July 12th – 14th, 2021. Hosted by the Philosophy & Medicine project (a joint enterprise of King's College London and the Peter Sowerby Foundation) together with the ERC-funded BUMP (Better Understanding the Metaphysics of Pregnancy) project, it will take place over three half-days, with sessions from 1pm - 5pm BST (8am - 12pm ET) each day.

The summer school will provide doctoral students and early career researchers with a chance to read and discuss some new work on topics within the metaphysics of pregnancy. There will also be opportunities for those interested to present and get feedback on their own relevant work.

Most sessions will be pre-read, with discussion led by Professor Elseijn Kingma (Peter Sowerby Chair in Philosophy and Medicine, KCL) and Dr Alexander Geddes (Southampton/KCL). Two of these will also be guest sessions, in which Dr Alexandria Boyle (Cambridge/Bonn) and Dr Anne Sophie Meincke (Vienna) will join us to discuss some of their recent work.

To apply, please email Alex Geddes ([email protected]), using the subject line 'MPSS Application', and include the following:

  • A CV
  • A statement of interest, explaining your reasons for wanting to attend the summer school and its relevance to your research (~500 words)

If you have work you would like to present, please also include:

  • An abstract (~500 words)

The application deadline is Monday June 21st.

Details on how to apply can also be found on the BUMP website at: http://bump.group/summer-school

If you have any questions, please contact either Alex Geddes ([email protected]) or Sonya Ringer ([email protected]).
